OPEN LETTER TO THE NAYSAYERS
Dear self-professed and myopic viewed hockey purists,
This is not going to be pretty for you, but I think it's something you need to hear.
The demise of the Dallas Stars and hockey below the 49th parallel in general, has been grossly exaggerated.
Ya, I'm talkin' to you dunce-head.
You're the goof who thought aloud that SI's ranking for the Stars (21st overall) was a little high.
You're the nimrod who picked Dallas to finish 4th in the division.
You come from the same shallow end of the gene pool that harbored those who questioned the fans loyalty to this brow-beaten sport in places like Dallas, Anaheim and Nashville.
Nice prognostication, clown.
But enough about your retarded hockey IQ, here are some cold reality numbers for you dips to chew on:
Stars season tickets for this season have now passed where they stood in 2003-04
The club is poised to sell out the first three playoff games
The Stars sales staff have already sold 700 full season tickets for next season (The past two highest sales numbers for a season were 1,466 in the summer of 2002 and 1,600 this past summer)
85% of this season's season seat holders have already committed to next season (That's the highest renewal rate since the team moved into American Airlines Center)
Understandably the player's attitudes and time have aided greatly in the renaissance.
The guys have done numerous events for the public, many events for our cherished season ticket holders, millions of little things day in and day out for everyone who has asked during this taxing, condensed schedule, and they have again given generously with their time for charity (Participating in the Dr Pepper Luncheon Series, Casino Night, Kids Media Day, ICE Program Day, and Team Signings that test the metacarpals and keep the Stars Community Relations Dept. stocked with autographed paraphernalia)
So has this off-ice participation hurt them on the ice?
You wish.
They have set franchise records for road wins and total wins.
They've set an NHL record for wins when trailing after two periods.
They hold the title "Greatest Shootout Team in League History".
A half a dozen guys are enjoying career years.
Marty Turco has racked up an NHL high and franchise record 40 wins.
The Finnish Six have given the squad a core identity.
And, to the delight of many, the Stars have bucked the downward trend in fighting. Led by Steve Ott, they've dropped the mitts and punched their way to the most fighting majors in the league.
Even you dimwits have to admit it's quite a body of work.
So suck on that Stars Hockey haters.
And remember, the postseason is yet to come!
Sincerely,
Razorboy
