ROAD TRIPPINGS
Everyone associated with this six city sojourn is eagerly anticipating touching down in Dallas early tomorrow morning. We’ve had enough of hotel rooms, restaurant food, and each other.
As far as trips go its been a pretty good one.
Here’s a nugget from each stop that didn’t make it into the broadcasts:
3-2W @NYR - 20 million people cram into the city during the day. That’s roughly the population of Canada! It makes vehicular circulation (traffic) a bear. ..Must see? The RBK store. The OCC NHL bike in the front is a wicked looking machine, and it was awfully nice of the store to have Mike Modano’s mannequin likeness in the front window, good karma.
3-2OTW @NYI - About 3,500 “fans” dotted the old barn in Uniondale…Former Star Bill Guerin spent much of the night sitting in penalty box. He has spent the last four seasons pocketing $37.2 M to pot 113 goals, that’s roughly $330,000 per goal. At a similar rate Brett Hull should have made around $29 million for his 86 goal season with Blues.
4-2L @ NJ - The new Prudential Center features easily the highest press box location in all of sports. Nothing like trying to call the world’s fastest game from a lunar location and then when turning to enhance things from a monitor, attempt to make observations from a dingy, scratched up, 5x5 inch TV screen that was obsolete when television went to color. Considering how bang on I called that game -damn I’m good!
4-1L @ PIT - Are the Penguins serious that Armstrong, Sykora, Kennedy, and Laraque are all better choices to play right wing than 500 goal, multi Stanley Cup winner, character individual Mark Recchi?! He’d probably mesh well with the Stars #9.
4-1W @ PHI - The late Evil Kneivel once tried out for the Flyers. He also started a minor league franchise in his home town of Butte, Montana. He was the owner, manager, coach and a player. Reportedly it was short lived and shady. He apparently bolted with a pile of money. Evil was probably a tough guy on blades who would never “pull the chute” …well, at least not until he was attempting to jump the Snake river….Also, contrary to the Flyers Comcast broadcast, Brett Hull is not married to Stars team services princess Lesa Moake.
? @ CLB - I’m submitting this prior to the finale against Hitch’s Bluejackets. I’ll prognosticate a hard hitting, “fixed bayonet” clash that goes to extra time…I don’t know how many times that cannon is going to go off, hopefully not too many, I don’t know that JJ’s and Hitch’s surgically propped up tickers can take an 8-7 barrage!...Members of the Stars award winning broadcast department (also known as dorks, losers and floaters) were treated to their first G.M. financed dinner in almost a decade. Tons of fun, and we greatly appreciated it, although, tonight’s broadcast may be a little sluggish and fatty.
