ROAD TRIP REWIND
Well, we are on the plane travelling back from an eleven day sojourn -- to be honest, it felt like eighteen.
It all started so nicely in the Windy City. A lovely little 3-1 win over the injury-riddled Hawks. My memories of Chi-town? Long travel day to get there, excellent shower, convenient proximity to a Starbucks, and Turco picked up the cab fare to the UC.

St. Louis was a different story on the ice, a 4-2 loss. However, off the ice - again, excellent shower and this time Starbucks right in the room. Love that. Sure it's a little extra work brewing your own joe but even the most pampered of broadcasters should be able to handle ripping open a foil package, pouring water in the machine and pushing on. Got a solid workout in and trudged through the back end of back-to-back games on a gloomy rainy day. You know they call St. Louis The Gateway City and for us it was the portal to the Ritz Carleton Marina Del Rey, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
The West Coast was magnificent. Sunny, warm, cushy, hip -- and expensive. (coffee and muesli in the morning -- $20 bucks, but you do get it French press style, marina-side, and in the sun)
For five days I beat the hotels treadmill into the ground, got in touch with my inner Federer, and ate the best chicken caesar salad ever concocted -- repeatedly. It was also in L.A. that I perfected the old-world art of washing sweaty work-out gear in a sink. (shampoo, hot water, and elbow grease) Those women on the banks of the river in third world countries have nothing on the Razorboy!
The on-ice stuff -- not so good. The Stars slopped out a shootout loss against the Kings, and were run over like a highway car-counter in Anaheim.
But, once we arrived in San Jose for the finale things soon became brighter. The hotel was 2 blocks from Starbucks and 5 or 6 from the arena. It had cookies at the front desk and a pantry that was stocked with bread, meat and cheeses for late night hunger pains. The Twinkles ran their winning streak at the Shark Tank to six games with a dominating performance led by #9, and in turn salvaged a .500 road trip. Zubov left in the third for I assume injury reasons, but the club was not releasing much. (Rough couple of weeks for our All-star)
As you can see it's a rather dull existence on the road, especially when its Starbucks locations that titillate your adrenals.
I'm tired of turn down service.
Tired of maid service.
Tired of room service.
Tired of seeing the same faces every morning, every noon, every night.
34 of the last 55 days have been spent on the road, and its time for a respite from the plane-bus-hotel triangular treadmill of travel.
Call the front desk and cancel my wake-up call.
