STANLEY CUP OF MARCH?
There are two certainties I have learned in my hockey life -- You can't make the club in the tub. And, you can't win (or lose) the Stanley Cup in March.
So relax Stars fans. The Ides of March are overblown. (I don't even know what that means)
Running the table in the final full month of the regular season, or losing consistently during the month of March seems to be a feeble harbinger of success come play-off time.
Just look at the last three seasons for our little Twinkles. (All first round exits)
2003-04 8-3-4
2005-06 11-3-1
2006-07 10-3-3
Oh, and its worth noting that they were 8-1-2 in March of 1997 before being upset in the first round by Cujo and those pesky Oilers.
The only losing March on record for the Dallas Stars was that dreadful 1995-96 season. That year they won only 26 games and basically sucked from October to April.
So yes, being 1-6 seven games into the month has an odor to it. And, as you are well aware, they can perpetuate the stink and lose 4 of these final 7 regular season games too if they so desire. But come April 9th the trend will have to cease-- and Razorboy says it will. (And the Easter Bunny agrees)
