ELECTION

Here's a little election day muse from a spectating Canadian.

When considering how important getting to the polls and casting a vote is for a democratic society such as ours, a society that has had so many sacrifice so much through the years, why then is election day not a national holiday?

To me the only order of business today should be making your vote count. If the lines are long and it looks like it'll take half the day to get to the booth, so be it. No excuses. No cubicle to get back to. Just get it done. It'd be all you have to do on this day - and it's very, very important.

And since Election Day falls on a Tuesday there would be no fear that free wheeling citizens would take the day off completely, ignoring their civic duty and making a four day weekend of it.

So whoever wins today, listen to the Razorboy and get a bill introduced that would every four years make the first Tuesday in November a "National Day of Voting".

Oh, and since I can't vote I will use the free time as a personal "Day of Pondering, Reflecting and Idea Hamsterring." Something that of course is best achieved on a golf course. 36 holes and a couple Danny's Specials in the 19th Hole at Royal Oaks should get the job done.

Golf the Vote!
