THE ADDITION OF SEAN AVERY – IN THEIR OWN WORDS
Since, among other things, it was a quote that landed Sean Avery in the Commissioners office I thought it apre poe that we revisit some quotes from the power brokers back when Sean’s act was first added to the Stars family in July of this past summer.
Brett Hull (Stars Co-GM)
- “It’s a no-brainer to have him in our lineup,” Hull said. “He’s a complement to Brenden Morrow, who does most of the dirty work with Steve Ott out there. What he did was help the Rangers become the team that they are and to help some of their players become achievers. He won’t let anyone sit on their laurels. He won’t let you take a night off.”
- "He definitely has an individualistic personality,” Hull said of Avery. “He goes against the stream, which I kind of like. He reminds me of myself in a way.”
- “He’s the little piece we were missing.” Brett Hull
Les Jackson (Stars Co-GM)
- “Clearly there have been some things he’s done in the past that have raised flags,” Stars Co-GM Les Jackson said. “He’ll know the standards of what our group accepts and what it doesn’t.”
Brenden Morrow (Captain)

- “There are things here that we will talk about,” Morrow said. “We feel we have something special going on here, and we feel we are a good team. And I have no problem with what he does as a player or how he works hard or gets people upset. But some of the stuff that makes the individual more important than the team, that’s not something we want to see here.”
Dave Tippett (Coach)
- “We did a lot of research and talked to a lot of people, and we really received a lot of positive feedback,” Stars coach Dave Tippett said. “He is a player who has an impact on the game. When you watch a game he plays in, you remember what he did.”
Sean Avery (Player)
- “I like to push it to the edge. No question about that,” Avery said. “That’s how I play, and that’s how I live. That’s what I am all about, but I’ve learned to do it without hurting the team and affecting the 22 guys in the dressing room.
- “I’m excited to cause quite a disturbance to a lot of guys I used to bother who were probably happy that I’ve been gone for a year and a half,” Avery said with a chuckle.
Footnote from Tracey Meyers article
Sean Avery came to the press conference wearing a matching plaid jacket and shorts, as well as shoes in a pink - maybe more salmon-colored - hue.
I doubt words can save face now.
