PRESIDENT'S DAY
Two things:
There is a trophy in the NHL that is awarded to the team that finishes with the most points. It’s called – appropriately – the President’s Trophy (Even though the NHL no longer has a “President” -- more on that in a minute).
- It was introduced in 1985 and along with the trophy $350,000 is awarded to the team.
- The Red Wings are the only team to win it more than twice.
- The Stars won it twice, back to back in 1998 and '99.
- Boston Bruins are currently first overall.
Are you aware that prior to Gary Bettman the head of the NHL held the title of “President” (It's now “Commissioner” to most…and another “choice” name to a few others). The previous Presidents were: Gil Stein, John Zeiglar, Clarence Campbell, Red Dutton, and Frank Calder)
