CIRCLING THE DRAIN
The only loss last night at AAC last night was hockey, and it wasn’t 1-0.
In a torturous, lymphatic, and unvarnished contest at the American Airlines Center the Stars moved a point closer to “not enough” by suffering their 4th 1-0 loss of the season, and in doing so they also lost both Trevor Daley and Krys Barch to injury while at the same time wasted a primo performance by workhorse goaltender Marty Turco, giving further fuel to the belief that they are just flat out cursed this season.
For Turco it was the second time he has registered a shutout – and lost the game. Even the way he/they lost seemed to fit right in with the slow, painful death they’ve been suffering all season. A puck shot – a save, sort of – no, not really – the goalie ending up completely in the net – the puck squirting through him – the ref blowing the call – a no goal signaled – a review overturning the call – a half hearted complaint – and a slow, shoulder- drooped skate to the dressing room. A dollar short and a day late.
For those of us who‘s job it is to call the games, this one was a chore.
There were times when I wanted to shove slivers of bamboo through my eyeballs, and would have if not for the fact my mind was too numb to actually facilitate such a dexterous maneuver.
Oh well, you get one or two of these in an 82 game schedule.
And an 82 game schedule is looking like the ceiling for this rattled and injury-riddled Stars team.
