THEY THREW THE PAMPHLET AT PAILLE

Do you know what I'm getting sick of -- besides predatory hits like last night's Paille-Sawada carnage? I'm feeling quite vomitous over observers chimping about how "guys have to have more respect for one another like they did 20 years ago" and the belief that hits of this nature are some new millennium phenomenon.

And here's why:

Four games. Six games. Whatever velvet wrist slap the league keeps doling out isn't going to deter future "hunt to hit to hurt" collisions. But make an example of a guy and hammer him with a 20, 30, 40 game banishment and it would cease - on the spot.

Paille could have pulled up. His explanation of the nefarious hit today would be laughable if the damage to Sawada wasn't so wide-spread.

Let's see.

Distance travelled. Check.

Susceptible player. Check.

Blind side hit. Check.

Head as primary target. Check.

Launched body off skates to deliver the blow. Check.

Four games?

Why not just put him in time-out, or take away his PS3?
