In light of the fact the Detroit Red Wings can suck to whatever fathom conscionable, as proven with last night's 10-3 pasting at the hands of the Blues, what do you think about this "theory"?:

With back to back games vs the Blackhawks to end both teams regular season the Wings could potentially "pick" who gets that 8th and final playoff spot and face the juggernaut Vancouver Canucks in the opening round.

Hmmm, let's see. Beat the Hawks and watch, say, the Stars get in...Or, gift wrap the 8-seed for a Chicago team that has been playoff cryptonite to the Canucks. And just to add another layer of espionage, you have disgruntled former employee Mike Modano on a Wings team that would be "resting people" against the Blackhawks on that final weekend with the by-product being a sad clown 9th place finish for the Dallas Stars.

All hypothetical.

May not unfold on that path.
