NHL VOID OF AN MVP?
As the Stars welcome their MVP, Brad Richards, back to practice (or is it Lehtonen? Or lately, Benn?) I got to thinking; Who is the NHL's Hart Trophy winner this season?
It's not an easy question to answer.
It's like the league as a whole right now. There is a ton of sameness and parity out there.
Until Crosby got concussed at the Winter Classic he was clearly the man. But in the vacuum of his absence it seems it's anybody's guess.
Daniel Sedin? Why not Kesler then?
Keith Yandle? Really?
Tim Thomas? Not lately.
Jonathan Toews? Maybe, but not if the Hawks don't make the playoffs.
Think about it for a while. There isn't an absolutely deserving individual of league MVP right now. Or is there?
Just because he's 40. Just because he's won lots of crap in the last two decades.
Don't overlook the value of Nick Lidstrom to the Detroit Red Wings this season.
He's played every game while many key teammates have missed time. He is 2nd in the league in defenseman scoring. He plays more than any Red Wing. And the Wings are going to win the Central Division.
Nick, the Father Time suspender, gets my vote.
How about you?
